The Bosnian state prosecution on Wednesday charged Sejdic, the former commander of the First Visegrad Brigade of the Bosnian Army, with having committed crimes against civilians and prisoners of war from July 1992 to mid-February 1993.
The prosecution’s indictment alleges that Sejdic ordered and participated in the unlawful detention, resettlement and torture of several dozen Serb civilians and prisoners of war, members of the Bosnian Serb Army.
“The civilians and prisoners of war were subjected to inhumane treatment, torture and beating, while also being exhausted due to hunger and thirst and held in overcrowded rooms with bad conditions,” the prosecution said in a statement.
“They were forced to perform hard labour. This resulted in death of several people,” it added.
The prosecution also said that Sejdic failed to stop or punish soldiers under his command who took part in various war crimes.
The indictment has been filed to the state court for confirmation.
