Karadzic has been charged with genocide in Srebrenica in 1995 and several other Bosnian municipalities in 1992. He has also been charged with persecuting the Bosniak and Croat population, terrorizing the inhabitants of Sarajevo and taking UNPROFOR members hostage.
Karadzic was arrested in Serbia, where he lived under the alias of Dragan Dabic, on this date seven years ago.
His trial began at the Hague Tribunal in October 2009. The prosecution began presenting evidence half a year later and completed their presentation of evidence in May 2012.
Karadzic, who is representing himself, had defense witnesses testify from October 2012 to May 2014.
In its closing statement presented this past fall, the Hague prosecution called for a verdict of life imprisonment. In his closing address to the chamber, Karadzic said he was convinced he would be acquitted of the charges made against him.
The verdict will be passed down by a chamber presided over by South Korean judge O-Gon Kwon. The other members of the chamber are Howard Morrison and Melvill Baird.
