Goran Popovic has been charged with participating in the assault and abuse of Bosniak prisoners at the Uzamnica camp in Visegrad in 1992.

The Bosnian state prosecution amended the indictment against Popovic. Popovic’s defense asked that the court reject the amendment, on the grounds that the charges had been drastically changed by the prosecution.

“The defense believes these are significant changes. The period and object of the attack have changed. The previous indictment claimed the attack was aimed at Bosniaks, and now it is aimed at the non-Serb population,” defense attorney Milos Peric said.

Prosecutor Seid Marusic said the defense’s argument with regards to the amendment was incorrect.

“I am allowed to amend the indictment, and this new indictment does not place the defendant in a worse position,” Marusic said.

Judge Stanisa Gluhajic accepted the amended indictment. He said it “describes the same actions, the same persons and the same qualifications as the original indictment.”

After the court accepted the amended indictment, there were no new proposals for evidence. The court scheduled the state prosecution’s closing arguments for March 18.
