The trial of Ekrem Ibracevic, Faruk Smajlovic and Sejdalija Covic, who are charged with crimes in the Srebrenik area in 1992, is due to begin on November 18 with the reading of the indictment and the presentation of the State Prosecution’s introductory statement.
As said at a pre-trial status conference, the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, BiH, planned to examine 40 witnesses and present and include, in the case file, 248 pieces of material evidence during the evidence presentation process.
Prosecutor Slavica Djurdjevic announced that statements given by two deceased witnesses during the investigation would be read at the trial as well.
According to the State Prosecution’s charges, Ibracevic, Smajlovic and Covic committed crimes in the premises of Rapatnica local community and at a football stadium in Luke village, where at least 40 civilians were detained, in the summer of 1992.
The civilians were beaten up, tortured and abused in different ways, including by using a soldetron and electricity.
The indictment alleges that Ibracevic was Chief of military security with the Municipal Headquarters of the Territorial Defence in Srebrenik, Smajlovic was Commander of a military police Squad with the Municipal Headquarter of the Territorial Defence in Srebrenik and Covic was a member of the military police.
The indictment in this case was confirmed in July.
