Mujo Begic, Chief of the Bihac Office of the Institute for the Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, says that the victims who were killed during the summer of 1992, have been found thanks to a correct piece of information received from an insider from VRS, which was then confirmed by several other sources. He was not able to provide additional details about how the grave was discovered.
“The mass grave was hidden under artificial layers of soil. Following a detailed digging, a layer a few metres thick and consisting of piled human remains, was discovered,” the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
Begic said that the first bodies were found at the depth of seven metres. At this moment he is not able to say how many bodies were buried in this grave. According to the initial estimates, it contains several tens of victims, the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina says.
“This is a primary mass grave. It is certainly one of the biggest graves in the Bosanska Krajina region,” the State Prosecution’s announcement says.
Begic expects that bodies of the killed people will be exhumed within the next month. According to Begic, the victims were brought from various areas such as Carakovo, Rizvanovici, Kozarac and others, and buried into the mass grave.
