Kondic not Capable of Following Trial

Medical court experts have determined that indictee Vinko Kondic is not capable of following the trial due to Parkinson’s disease – this was said at a status conference held as part of the trial for crimes in Kljuc.

The latest findings and opinion about indictee Kondic’s health condition was presented by court expert Enra Mehmedika-Suljic, who said that the patient was under observation at home in July this year.
 
“His condition has neither improved nor deteriorated. The patient is taking the maximum allowed dose of medications usually prescribed for Parkinson’s disease. He cannot actively participate in the trial,” Mehmedika-Suljic said, adding that she expected the disease to “progress further”.
 
Kondic does not have any written medical documents, because he communicates with his doctor in Belgrade via phone only.
 
The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina charges Kondic with having participated in organising a group of people and motivating them to commit genocide, as well as crimes against humanity and war crimes in Kljuc municipality, during 1992.
 
Kondic was originally charged along with Marko Adamovic and Bosko Lukic, but the proceedings were separated due to his health condition.
 
Prosecutor Dzemila Begovic said that she considered that the conditions for discontinuing the trial against Kondic had not been met, but the Defence objected to her allegations.
 
The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina is due to render its decision at a later stage.
