Sladoje appeared before the Sarajevo cantonal court on Tuesday accused of abusing civilians during the siege of the Bosnian capital.

The indictment alleges that, together with another former Bosnian Serb fighter, Slobodan Bogdanovic, he physically abused two people who were taken to the city’s Jewish cemetery, where they were used as human shields during the fighting. One was killed.

The two men are also charged with participating in the physical abuse of another person.

Bogdanovic pleaded not guilty to these charges on June 11, but Sladoje failed to show up at that hearing.

The beginning of the trial will be scheduled at a later date.
