The Missing Persons Institute said that an exhumation on Wednesday in the grounds of the Sarajevo University Clinical Centre, known as the Kosevo Hospital, revealed bone fragments, shoes and a wristwatch that probably belonged to a 1990s war victim.

The remains and the items found have been sent for forensic testing and evaluation in Miljevici, while bone samples will be used to determine the victim’s identity using DNA analysis.

The Missing Persons Institute said that the exhumation was carried out on the basis of information from a witness who said that bodies had been taken out of the Kosevo Hospital morgue and buried in the hospital grounds.

“According to the witness’s information, the remains of victims who were transferred from the hospital morgue could be found at this location,” Missing Persons Institute spokesperson Emza Fazlic told BIRN.
