The indictment, which has been filed to the state court for confirmation, accuses Labidi of leaving Bosnia and Herzegovina together with his family in mid-2014, travelling to Turkey and then illegally crossing the Syrian border.
In Syria, he joined paramilitary formations which operated within the structures of the so-called Islamic State, the indictment claims.
“The investigation has determined that as of 2016, he was a member of several armed formations and, as such, participated in combat in the towns of Raqqa and Haritan,” the prosecution said in a statement.
“After the fall and collapse of the terrorist organisation, at the beginning of 2019 he was captured by Kurdish forces and at the end of that year extradited to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he is being held in custody,” the statement added.
Labidi was deported in December 2019 together with Jasmin Keserovic, Armen Dzelko, Senad Kasupovic, Milarem Berbic, Emir Alisic and Muharem Dunjic, who are all suspected of similar offences.
The state prosecution filed indictments for charging all of them with fighting in Syria, except Dunjic, who is still being investigated. The trials of Dzelko and Keserovic have already begun.
