Una-Sana Canton police department spokesperson Snezana Galic told BIRN on Thursday that war crimes defendant Mico Prastalo died a violent death, and a crime scene inspection has indicated that he probably committed suicide.

Galic said police received a report on Wednesday that a lifeless body had been found in a car in Lusci Palanka in the Sanski Most municipality.

Prastalo, the former commander of the Sixth Battalion of the Bosnian Serb Army’s Sixth Sanski Brigade, was on trial at the state court in Sarajevo for persecuting non-Serbs in the Kljuc area.

He was charged with ordering and committing murders, as well as knowing about but failing to prevent murders and detentions.
