Ahmic told the district court of Doboj that he was detained with Matanovic in the district prison in 1992.

“While I was in the cell, I heard Branislav Ninkovic hitting Jozo Matanovic while escorting him through the corridor,” Ahmic said. He said Matanovic died at the beginning of June 1992.

Ninkovic has been charged with participating in the torture and abuse of apprehended non-Serb civilians held on the premises of the prison in Doboj from May 1992 to March 1993.

At the beginning of 2014, Ninkovic was sentenced to two years in prison. The Supreme Court of Republika Srpska revoked the first instance verdict and ordered a retrial.

The trial will continue on March 2.
