Stevo, Milosav, Marjan and Slavko Jovanovic have been charged with killing five Bosniak civilians in the village of Medosevici during the first half of July, 1992. Two civilians were killed with firearms. One was killed with a blow to the chest. The defendants then killed two children by locking them inside a house and setting it on fire.

The defendants have also been with having killed an 86 year old woman in a house in the village of Buckovici on June 4, 1992. After the murder they set the house on fire.

According to the charges, they were members of the Third Podrinjska Light Infantry Brigade of the Bosnian Serb Army.

At today’s hearing, the state prosecution included 63 pieces of material evidence in the case file. The evidence included documents confirming that the defendants were members of the Third Podrinjska Light Infantry Brigade of the Bosnian Serb Army.

The state prosecution presented death certificates for victims Dzevla, Ahmet and Kimeta Medosevic, as well as a note on the disappearance of two children, Mevlid and Muris Bavcic, obtained from the Institute for Missing Persons.

It also presented a death certificate and a report on the exhumation of victim Aisa Popovic.

Other material evidence presented included minutes by the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) on a search of the personal property of the defendants. The minutes indicate that ammunition was found at defendant Marjan Jovanovic’s residence. The prosecutor said nothing but documents were found in the homes of the other defendants.

The defense teams objected to the SIPA minutes, claiming they were irrelevant to the case.

The defense teams submitted a joint proposal of evidence, saying they planned to examine 13 witnesses.

The trial will continue on February 5, when the examination of defense witnesses will continue.
