Raguz, a former member of the Croatian Defense Council, has been charged with the torture and inhumane treatment of detainees held at the Kostana hospital in Stolac.

Defense attorney Branko Karadeglic said trial chamber chair Hamo Kebo was detained by members of the Croatian Defense Council during the war in 1993.

“The defense considers there are justified reasons for exempting the chairman in this case, meaning there is suspicion with regards to his impartiality and objectivity in handling this case,” Karadeglic said.

Kebo asked Karadeglic why the request had not been presented on September 9. Karadeglic said he couldn’t come to a decision on filing an exemption request without consulting his client, and said this was why the request was filed so late. Kebo ordered Karadeglic to pay 2000 Mark fine for delaying the trial proceedings.

The trial is postponed until a decision on Kebo’s exemption has been made.
