On Monday, August 24, the first prosecution witnesses will be examined at the trial of Goran Maksimovic, Ljiljan Mitrovic, Slavko Peric, Mile Vujevic, Vukasin Draskovic, Gojko Stevanovic, Cvjetko Popadic, Rajo Lazarevic and Mico Manojlovic. The defendants have been charged with the murder of 67 civilians in the village of Lokanj in Zvornik in the summer of 1992.

Maksimovic was the commander of the Interventions Unit with the public safety station in Ugljevik and Mitrovic was his deputy. Peric was the commander of the Lokanjska Company of the Zvornicka Brigade of the Bosnian Serb Army, while the other defendants were members of that company.

On Monday, August 24, a status conference will be held before the trial of ten former members of the Bosnian Serb Army. Luka Dragicevic, Boban Indjic, Obrad Poluga, Novak Poluga, Dragan Sekaric, Oliver Krsmanovic, Petko Indjic, Radojica Ristic, Vuk Ratkovic and Mico Jovicic have been charged with kidnapping 20 passengers from a train in Strpci in February 1993. They were killed in the municipality of Visegrad later on.

On Thursday, August 27, a hearing of the Vinko Kondic trial will be held. The trial was suspended in September 2010 due to Kondic’s poor health. At the last hearing, held over a year ago, a medical court expert said Kondic’s health had not improved.

The state prosecution has charged Kondic with participating in organizing and inciting genocide, as well as crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in the municipality of Kljuc in 1992.
