The Federation supreme court repealed Ermin Curtic’s prison sentence, and called for a retrial at the cantonal court of Sarajevo.

The Federation supreme court repealed Ermin Curtic’s prison sentence, and called for a retrial at the cantonal court of Sarajevo.

Curtic, a former guide with the Croatian Defense Council Special Purposes Unit, was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for war crimes in Vares.

On November 7, 2013, the cantonal court of Sarajevo found Curtic guilty of participating in attacks on the towns of Stupni Do and Vares Majden. He was also found guilty of the inhumane treatment and theft of civilians.

The proceedings against Curtic have been ongoing since 1996. He was sentenced to five and a half years in prison in October 2011, but the verdict was repealed. A retrial which handed down the same verdict in 2013.

Curtic spent four months in custody in 1996, from October 15, 2009 to May 9, 2012.
