Defense Witness Says Condric Helped Him During Detention

Condric, a former member of the military police with the Croatian Defense Council, has been charged with abusing one person on the premises of the old police building in Bosanski Brod and beat a person in the prison located in the storage of the Beograd department store. Condric allegedly acted in collaboration with a member of the Croatian Defense Council.

A protected witness known as MC-4 said that Condric, whom he knew his entire life, visited him while he was imprisoned at the old police building in Bosanski Brod and brought him cigarettes.

He said the defendant helped him leave Bosanski Brod, but said he wasn’t sure how he did so.

MC-4 said he didn’t see Condric at the Polet stadium.

MC-4 said he was held in detention with Marko Mitric, but didn’t notice that someone hit him and Mitric did not mention it either.

During cross-examination MC-4 said he heard that between ten and fifteen women were held at the Polet stadium. He said he heard about beatings and rapes, but not in his presence.

Testifying at this hearing, Josip Blazevic said he was a member of the military police in Bosanski Brod with the defendant, and said other members of that unit were also called Mato.

Blazevic said he thought Condric was wounded twice – in July, but he said he wasn’t sure, and then again in August 1992.

When asked by the state prosecution whether anyone guarded the detainees in the old police building, Blazevic said he didn’t know and said he believed no one guarded them.

He said he didn’t see any women at the stadium.

The trial will continue on May 27.
