Marijan Brnjic, Martin Barukcic, as well as Pavo and Ilija Glavas have been charged with the rape, abuse and humiliation of Serb women in Odzak from June to August 1992.

Klara Brnjic told the court that she left Posavska Mahala in Odzak with her husband Marijan and two children in October 1991. She said after they emigrated to Germany, her husband visited Bosnia and Herzegovina only twice during the war.

“He went to Bosnia in order to check up on our house in March. He planned to come back soon, but the war broke out. He stayed until the fall of Novi Grad. He arrived in Germany on May 10, 1992 and did not go back again,” Brnjic said.

Brnjic said she and her husband Marijan went on a pilgrimage on the border between Germany and Switzerland in the summer of 1992 and then attended a mass in Munich. There they allegedly contacted many acquaintances from their hometown. Their neighbour Marko Antunovic paid them a visit as well.

“My husband is not guilty. He was with me,” Klara Brnjic said. She said they didn’t return to Bosnia until July 1998.

Marko Antunovic, the second defense witness to testify at this hearing, said he visited Marijan Brnjic and his family in Germany on St. Anthony’s Day on June 13, 1992. He said during his visit they went to a mass in Munich together.

Brnjic’s attorney, Rifat Konjic, said his client proposed Elma Muhedinovic, an associate of prosecutor Miroslav Janjic, to testify as a witness and speak about taking a statement from a deceased witness.

The court will render a decision regarding this proposal at a later stage.

The trial will continue on April 21, when new witnesses will testify in defense of Marijan Brnjic.
