Mesud Dzananovic, a former Commander of the ABiH Battalion, which was formed to provide temporary support on Mount Igman, recalled his conversation with the indictee in late July 1993.

The witness said that, at that time the area was reconnoitered prior to an attack on Golo Brdo, which was under VRS control and represented a strategic position for Mount Igman and amount Bjelasnica, as well as the defence of Sarajevo.

He said that, on July 26 or 27, 1993, after having found out that he was going to Sarajevo, he asked Bojadzic, former Deputy Commander of “Zulfikar” Unit of ABiH, to convey to the Command that he needed new soldiers and cigarettes.

When asked why he made the request to Bojadzic and not to Vahid Karavelic, who was the leading man on Mount Igman at that time, Dzananovic said that he had reasons to contact all those, who travelled to Sarajevo, because the situation in his Unit was difficult.

“It would have been better had Karavelic gone. But he did not. Nihad Bojadzic went,” he said, adding that the indictee departed to Sarajevo no later than July 27, 1993.

Bojadzic is charged with crimes against Croats in Jablanica in July 1993, including the rape of a female during the night on July 28/29.

The witness said that indictee Bojadzic returned to Igman a few days later. As the witness said, prior to his departure to Sarajevo, Bojadzic had long hair and beard, just like everybody else on Mount Igman.

The Trial Chamber wanted to know how the indictee looked like upon his return. The witness originally said that he thought that he was shaved, but then he said that he could not remember.

Second Defence witness Fehim Bibic also said that he used to see the indictee on Mount Igman every day “starting from, perhaps, July 13 or 14, 1993”.

“Starting from that date until the end of my stay on Igman we used to see each other every day,” said Bibic, who was Commander of the 81st Brigade of ABiH at that time.

The witness said that he left Igman on July 23, 1993.

New Defence witnesses are due to be examined on February 12.
