Cavalic Brothers Jailed for Derventa Crimes

The district court in Doboj sentenced brothers Esad and Dervis Cavalic, both former Bosnian Croat forces fighters, to five and five-and-a-half years in prison respectively for war crimes in Derventa in 1992.

They were found guilty of abusing a man in the Yugoslav People’s Army Hall in Derventa in April 1992 and of abusing civilians illegally detained in military hangars in Rabic, near Derventa.

The brothers were given the same sentences in May last year, but the verdict was quashed by the Republika Srpska supreme court, which ordered a retrial.

This verdict can also be appealed at the supreme court of the Bosnian Serb entity.
