Psychiatrist Vjekoslav Kovacevic said that this witness had post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) accompanied by personality changes following a traumatic experience and that he suffered from depression.

“We spoke for quite long, considering the fact that he was extremely upset and distrustful towards me as a court expert during the examination. The injured party was visibly traumatized,” Kovacevic said.

Responding to questions by Lejla Covic, Defence attorney of indictee Indira Kameric, the court expert said that the witness could have hallucinations related to the traumatic event.

When the court expert was presented findings by psychologist Tatjana Popovic from March 1995, saying that the witness began hallucinating certain events, Kovacevic said that the document “supported” his findings.

“When the police came, they had to apprehend him. (…) He does not remember many things. His condition has deteriorated. ‘A burning of personality’ has happened,” Kovacevic said.

Indira Kameric is charged with having participated in the physical and mental torture as well as inhumane treatment of Serb and Bosniak civilians and prisoners of war in the police premises and at “Polet” Stadium in Bosanski Brod in 1992.

Among other things, Kameric is charged with having physically and mentally abused a detainee in the Police Station in Bosanski Brod by ordering him to take his clothes off and beating and mistreating him.

Responding to questions by presiding judge Saban Maksumic, the court expert said that he was not able to say what the witness’ mental condition was, when he gave his statements in 1994 and 2010.

The trial is due to continue on July 17.
