The presiding judge in the trial at the cantonal court in Sarajevo, Indira Jahic, said on Wednesday that Malinovic’s lawyer filed a motion on May 20 stating that the defendant had died and that he was buried on May 14.
“The court has not been presented with the death certificate; after that document is delivered, a decision on ceasing the proceedings will be issued,” Jahic said.
Ex-soldier Malinovic went on trial in March this year, accused of taking a civilian called Smajil Gacanovic to the Zunovica barracks in Hadzici on August 15, 1992 and killing him with an automatic rifle.
He denied the charges against him.
