The State Investigation and Protection Agency, SIPA, searched the Police Veterans’ Association’s office in Gorazde and the house of former policeman Ismet Subasic on Thursday in a trawl for information to aid a war crimes probe.

“SIPA officers requested 18 documents from us which we do not possess. We have voluntarily handed over only one list ,” said Izet Helac, head of the Gorazde region Police Veterans’ Association.

Helac said that his association was not hiding any documents and that its members are not connected with war crimes or with the suspects whose names were listed in the search warrant.

He said he believed that the search was conducted in order to approach association member Ismet Subasic, who is the brother of Osman Subasic, currently interior minister of the Bosnia-Podrinje Canton in Gorazde and formerly the wartime commander at the police station in Vitkovici.

The Bosnian state prosecution has so far not raised any indictment for war crimes committed in the Gorazde area during 1992-95 conflict.
