As decided at a status conference held before the Doboj District Court for the second time in this case, the trial of Branislav Ninkovic, former guard at the District Prison in Doboj, who is charged with crimes against the civilian population, is due to begin on June 9.

Ninkovic is charged with having participated in the torture and abuse of captured non-Serb civilians in the period from May 1992 to March 1993. This resulted in big mental and physical suffering, bodily injuries and the death of captives.

District Prosecutor Slavko Krulj announced that the Prosecution would examine 22 witnesses, including a protected witness and court medicine expert.

Defence attorney Branko Ristic said that, as per a request by the Defence, between four and six witnesses would be examined.

The trial of Branislav Ninkovic was supposed to begin in January this year.

Judge Snezana Banac-Lopandic explained that the beginning of the trial was postponed due to the appointment of two new judges with the War Crimes Section of the District Court in Doboj.
