Witness Muharemovic said that Merdzic and his family were in Hrnjcici village, Bratunac municipality, which was 16 kilometres away from Glogova village.

According to Muharemovic’s testimony, Merdzic was not a member of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, ABiH, in that period, but he just stood sentinel along with other local residents in the vicinity of Hrnjcici.

The indictment alleges that Nezir Merdzic, who was allegedly accompanied by about ten other members of ABiH, shot at a vehicle from an ambush on the road between Bratunac and Konjevic Polje in June 1992, killing three Serb civilians.

At this hearing Merdzic’s Defence examined two more witnesses, who tried to deny a testimony by District Prosecution’s witness Samir Avdic, who said, while being examined at the Public Safety Centre in Bijeljina in August 2008, that he was on a hill and watched the murder of civilians and that he found out, later on, that “Kezo” was among the men, who opened fire at the vehicle. Merdzic is known by his nickname Kezo.

Defence witnesses Esad Ramic and Dzemal Suljic said that Avdic was not in the vicinity of Glogova, but in Visoko, in June 1992.

They explained that Avdic told them that he was captured in his house in Bratunac at the beginning of May 1992 and that he was exchanged a few days later and taken to Visoko.

“I was captured on May 10, 1992 and taken to the school building in Bratunac. We were transported to Pale. On May 16, 1992 we were exchanged and taken to Visoko. Samir Avdic was held in detention with me. We stayed in Visoko for 30 or 40 days in order to recover from injuries and find out where our families were,” Ramic said.

The trial is due to continue on May 12 this year.
