A Guard with Mad Eyes

Krunoslav Trlin, former member of the Croatian Defence Council, HVO, was captured in the vicinity of Konjic on April 19, 1993 and taken to Musala detention camp. He said that he heard about Macic from other detainees, whom that guard used to beat up.
 
“I saw him for the first time, when Edhem Zilic was appointed the manager. They were probably members of military police. He had a belt and stick. He was sometimes dressed in black suit and, at other times in camouflage uniform,” Trlin said.
 
He described Macic as a person “with mad eyes”, who was about 180 cm tall and not more than 25 years old.
 
According to Trlin, Maca was present in the detention camp almost every day.
 
“He hit me once, when I was returning from the toilet. He hit me on my head with his fist, when I passed by him. I nearly lost consciousness,” said Trlin, who spent six months in the detention camp.
 
Ibro Macic is charged with having participated in the torture and sexual abuse of detainees in Musala school building in Konjic from April to October 1993.  
 
Witness Goran Niksic said that, out of all guards from Musala detention camp, he remembered “Ibrahim Macic, who is sitting here across from me”, the best.
 
Niksic said that this guard used to torture the guys from Dusina the most and that he hit him once during his examination at Manager Edhem Zilic’s office.
 
The Defence of Ibro Macic said that, in his statement given in 1995 witness Niksic failed to mention that Ibro Macic had hit him. Niksic said that he gave that statement in a rush and that nobody asked him whether he had been hit by anybody.
 
According to the schedule of hearings, this trial is due to continue on February 7.
