¸Dragan Nikolic Freed in August

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, ICTY in February 2005 sentenced Nikolic to 20 years in prison, after which he was transferred to Italy to serve his prison sentence.

Nikolic admitted guilt for taking part in killings, rape and torture of Bosniak prisoners in Susica.

Meron granted early release despite the fact that the Appeals chamber of the Tribunal found that Dragan Nikolic (also known as Jenki), as commander of the Susica camp – where hundreds of Bosniak civilians were detained in inhumane conditions – committed “brutal sadistic crimes and enjoyed them”.

In Meron’s decision it is stated that the Italian prison claimed that Nikolic’s behaviour during his incarceration “was adequate”.

Nikolic was granted early release on August 20 this year.
