Milka Lonco said that on July 4, 1992, she was brought to the Viktor Bubanj army barracks where she was, together with another five people, put into a room. She said one night in Viktor Bubanj she heard someone being killed.
One night was particularly horrific. Someone was killed. You could hear it in the corridor in front of our room. We heard moans and screams… In the morning, when they took us to the toilet, someone said: Someone was killed here last night,” said the witness.
She said she was held in Viktor Bubanj around 20 days, and that she was interrogated several times during her imprisonment.
Iulian-Nicolae Vintila and Ramiz Avdovic are charged, as members of a joint criminal enterprise, with taking part in the establishment and maintenance of a system of abuse of Serb civilians between June and late November 1992 in the former army barracks Viktor Bubanj.
According to the indictment, Avdovic was in charge of all the guards in at the Viktor Bubanj barracks military prison, while Vintila was a cook and a guard at the barracks.
Asked whether she knew Advovic and Vintila, Lonco said she did not know them.
Speaking about the conditions in the former barracks, the witness said that the food was very bad and that she bathed only once during her imprisonment.
We cleaned the corridors, they took us to pick chicory leaves inside the barracks. Someone told us that the part of the barracks where we worked was a mine field, she said, adding that she suffers psychological consequences from her imprisonment even today.
At the start of the trial, Lonco said that before being brought to Vikor Bubanj she was held in another prison facility.
The trial will resume on April 12.
