Prosecutor Remzija Smailagic requested the State Court to extend custody for Vulic due to a danger that he might flee, considering the fact that, as she said, the suspect had Croatian citizenship and “strong connections” with Croatia.

“The suspect lives in Grude, where it is easy to cross the state border even without personal documents. It is generally known that Croatia does not extradite its citizens,” Smailagic said.

Irena Pehar, Defence attorney of the suspect, said that Vulic went to Croatia for economic reasons, adding that he had never intended to evade criminal prosecution.
“The mere fact that he has the citizenship of another state is not sufficient for extending his custody,” Pehar said.

The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina suspects Vulic, former member of the Third Company with the Fifth Military Police Battalion of the Croatian Defence Council, in Capljina, with having killed three Bosniak men from an automatic rifle in Dretelj on July 14, 1993.

The State Investigation and Protection Agency, SIPA, arrested Vulic on February 7. He has been held in custody since.
