The conference organized by the Balkans Investigative Reporting Network in Bosnia and Herzegovina, BIRN BiH, which was attended by more than 120 international and regional media and judiciary experts, received positive coverage from the Western Balkans media.

The conference sought to facilitate the exchange of experiences among judicial institutions, local authorities and the media in the Western Balkans region in order to encourage timely, objective and reliable reporting on crimes committed during the past war.

Judging by the media response in the region, particularly media in Bosnia and Herzegovina, this topic will receive much more attention in the future. More than 50 media reports emerged from the conference sessions.

The conference lasted for three days, from September 1 to September 3, and took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It received extensive coverage in the electronic and printed media. All the leading daily newspapers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including Dnevni avaz, Oslobodjenje, Nezavisne novine, Dnevni list and Glas Srpske, published daily reports from the conference.

In its issue of September 7, Oslobodjenje published a partial transcript from the session on “Political responsibility in
maintaining court transparency and independence”.

Radio Television Bosnia and Herzegovina, Federal TV, Radio Television Republika Srpska and commercial TV stations such as Hayat TV and OBN, showed the opening of the Conference on their news programmes.

Many conference participants and speakers from the region gave interviews to various media outlets during their stay in the country as BIRN BiH guests.

On the evening of Friday, September 4, RTRS broadcast a half-hour reportage about the conference. More than 20 Internet portals in Bosnia and Herzegovina uploaded news related to the conference on a daily basis.

However, the organizers expressed particularly satisfaction with the coverage received from regional media. Conference reports were published on some of the most prominent web portals and Internet pages in the region, including glassrbije.org, Serbian News agency BETA, B92 and www.e-novine.com.

In Croatia, the most popular TV station, NOVA TV, broadcast a reportage from the conference on its central news show at 19.00. The news issued by HINA news agency ensured coverage of the conference by a large number of local media in Croatia. Croatian Internet portals carried numerous reports on conference sessions. Some of the very popular portals, such as business.hr, monitor.hr and slobodnadalmacija.hr, published daily reports on the conference.
