The district court of Doboj has sentenced Branislav Ninkovic to two years in prison for crimes committed against civilians in the Doboj district prison.
After the prosecution and defense presented their closing statements, the district court of Doboj scheduled the announcement of Branislav Ninkovics verdict for June 2.
Former soldier Miodrag Markovic, who was convicted of raping an under-age girl near Doboj during wartime, had his sentence reduced from seven to six years on appeal.
The District Court in Doboj scheduled the start of the Vojislav Brestovac trial for September 8, 2015. Brestovac has been charged with the wartime murder of civilians in Doboj.
At the retrial of Miodrag Markovic, the defense requested a reduced sentence, while the prosecution said Markovics initial sentence should have been longer. Markovic, a former Bosnian Serb Army soldier, was found guilty of the rape of a minor in the municipality of Doboj.
Victims from a grave discovered on the bank of the Bosna river in the Doboj settlement of Natron have yet to be identified, said Lejla Congic, spokesperson for the Institute of Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At todays hearing of the Branislav Ninkovic trial, the trial chamber accepted a proposal by the defense to examine the defendant after all material evidence had been presented.
Testifying in Ratko Mladic's defence, a former Bosnian Serb army officer admitted that non-Serbs were persecuted and killed in 1992 in Doboj, but blamed local police and paramilitaries.
