A Bosnian court reduced the sentence of Jovan Tintor, former adviser to Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, who was convicted for the unlawful detentions and abuse of Bosniak and Croat prisoners in the Vogosca area in 1992. The second instance chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has reduced Tintor’s sentence from 11 to ten years in prison for war crimes committed during the 1992-1995 Bosnian war, BIRN has learned.

Jovan Tintor, a former adviser to Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, appealed against his conviction for the unlawful detentions and abuse of Bosniak and Croat prisoners in the Vogosca area in 1992. The defence lawyer for Jovan Tintor, the former president of the wartime Crisis Committee in the municipality of Vogosca, lodged an appeal at the Bosnian state court on Friday against his 11-year prison sentence.

Jovan Tintor, a former adviser to Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, was convicted of being responsible for the unlawful detentions and abuse of Bosniak and Croat prisoners in the Vogosca area in 1992. The Bosnian state court in Sarajevo on Thursday found Jovan Tintor, the wartime head of the Serb-led Crisis Committee in the Vogosca municipality, guilty of crimes against Bosniak and Croat detainees and sentenced him to 11 years in prison.

2. July 2018.
Prosecutors called for the conviction of Jovan Tintor, a former adviser to Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, who is accused of crimes against humanity against Bosniaks and Croats in Bosnia’s Vogosca area in 1992. Prosecutor Adis Nuspahic said in his closing statement to the state court in Sarajevo on Monday that Jovan Tintor played a major role in the Bosnian war and should be found guilty of crimes against humanity.

A prosecution witness at the trial of Jovan Tintor for crimes against humanity in Vogosca said the defendant threatened to kill all the Bosniaks in the area in May 1992. Prosecution witness Bilal Hasanovic, the former president of the Vogosca Municipal Assembly, told the state court in Sarajevo on Monday that in May 1992, Tintor, who was the head of the Serb Crisis Committee in the area at the time, threatened to “kill all your people in Vogosca”.

Jovan Tintor, a wartime politician and former adviser to Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, went on trial for crimes against humanity against Bosniaks and Croats in the Vogosca area in 1992. Jovan Tintor, also known as Joja, went on trial on Monday at the Bosnian state court in Sarajevo on charges of unlawful detention, torture, beating, making people do forced labour and murdering Bosniak and Croat victims at several locations including detention camps.
