In closing arguments at Ratko Mladic’s trial, the defence said UN prosecutors did not prove the former Bosnian Serb military chief’s forces committed genocide in six Bosnian municipalities in 1992. Mladic’s defence lawyer Dragan Ivetic told the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague on Monday that the prosecutors had not proved that there was a coordinated plan for the commission of genocide in the six municipalities or that the Bosnian Serb Army commander was responsible for persecution and ethnic cleansing there.

The prosecution in the genocide and war crimes trial of former Bosnian Serb military chief Ratko Mladic will begin its closing statements at the Hague Tribunal on December 5. Four-and-a-half years after the start of Mladic’s trial, the prosecution and defence are to sum up their arguments starting next week, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia said on Wednesday.

Sarajevo University’s law and political sciences faculties screened BIRN’s documentary ‘The Unidentified’, about the Serbian fighters responsible for some of the worst atrocities of the Kosovo war in 1999. ‘The Unidentified’, which investigates attacks on Kosovo villages in 1999 and names those involved in an attempted cover-up operation to conceal the crimes, was screened for students of communications, security, journalism and law at Sarajevo University on Tuesday and Wednesday.

War victims are launching an appeal in The Hague, calling for the Netherlands to be held responsible for the deaths of all the Bosniaks from Srebrenica who were killed in July 1995. The Mothers of Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves victims’ group will launch an appeal on Thursday in The Hague against a 2014 verdict which held the Netherlands responsible for the deaths of about 300 Bosniaks after the fall of Srebrenica.
