Testifying at the trial of two defendants charged with participating in the Srebrenica genocide, an additional defense witness said defendant Ostoja Stanisic wasn’t in Petkovci in July 1995, the period of his alleged crimes.

Injured party Mladen Blagovcanin was examined as a defense witness at the trial of Mario Frimel. Frimel has been charged with crimes committed in Sarajevo. Responding to questions from the prosecution during cross-examination, he said Frimel was one of the persons who beat him in the Hrasno neighbourhood of Sarajevo.

The defense of Bosiljko and Ostoja Markovic asked the appeals chamber of the state court to repeal the verdict against them. The defendants were both sentenced to ten years in prison for the wartime rape of a 14 year old girl in Kotor-Varos.

A prosecution witness testified at the trial of Mirko Vrucinic, charged with crimes in the Sanski Most area. The witness said her brother was killed in the village of Trnovo in the Sanski Most area in October 1992.

The state prosecution has asked the court to repeal a verdict acquitting Goran Popovic of crimes against humanity in the Visegrad area.

On February 25, the cantonal court of Sarajevo will hand down a verdict against Milkan Gojkovic, who is charged with crimes committed in the Grbavica neighbourhood of Sarajevo.

A state prosecution witness testified at the trial of five former Bosnian Serb fighters charged with participating in the Srebrenica genocide. The witness said he transported able-bodied men from Potocari to Bratunac by bus in July 1995. The witness said that he transported women, children and the elderly to Kladanj a day earlier.

At the trial of three defendants charged with war crimes in Bileca, the defense of Miroslav Duka included 23 pieces of material evidence in the case file. The evidence included a statement given by a deceased witness, who said no one was taken away or mistreated in the village of Zausje.

Next week the Bosnian state court will hand down a verdict against Ramiz Avdovic and Iulian Nicolae-Vintila, charged with crimes in Sarajevo.

The state court has reduced Mladen Milic’s sentence from eight to seven years in prison. The appeals chamber applied the law of the former Yugoslavia to the case, which was in effect when Milic’s crimes were committed and provides more favourable sentencing. Milic was convicted of crimes in Kotor-Varos.
