Trial in Foca Wartime Rape Case Begins Next Week

The trial of Krsto Dostic will begin at the Bosnian state court on Monday, March 7. Dostic has been charged with multiple acts of wartime rape in Foca in 1992.

Dostic, a former member of the Bosnian Serb Army, has been charged with raping a woman in a late stage of pregnancy in the village of Ljubovic in the municipality of Foca on several occasions from April to December 1992.

On the same day, the first state prosecution witness will be examined at the trial of Srecko Acimovic. Acimovic has been charged with participating in genocide by assisting in the shooting of 1,040 Bosniaks captured after the fall of Srebrenica.

An appeal against Dzevad Dulic’s acquittal will also be presented on Monday. In September 2015, Dulic was acquitted of charges of raping a person in the Cazin area in December 1993.

On Tuesday, March 8, a status conference will be held in the case of Sasa Savinovic. Savinovic has been charged with committing crimes against humanity in the Mostar area in 1993.

On Wednesday, March 9, closing statements will be presented by the defense of Adil Vojic and Bekir Mesic. The defendants, both former members of the 501st Brigade of the Fifth Corps of the Bosnian Army, have been charged with raping a woman in the Bihac area on the night of May 1 or 2, 1994.

On the same day, the prosecution will present its closing statement at the trial of Zoran Bjelica and Novak Tripkovic. The defendants have been charged with participating in the murder and torture of Bosniak civilians detained in the Miladin Radojevic school in Kalinovik in 1992.

On Thursday, March 10, a hearing will be held in the case of Ljubisa Vranjes. The Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina partially revoked a verdict against him due to the incorrect application of law. In April 2012, the Bosnian state court found Vranjes guilty of committing crimes in Kotor-Varos in 1992 and sentenced him to eight years in prison.

On Friday, March 11, the state prosecution will present its closing statement at the trial of Nikola Maric, a former member of the Croatian Defense Council. Maric has been charged with committing persecution by participating in acts of murder, torture and other inhumane acts in the municipality of Prozor from November 1992 to October 1993.

Trials for crimes committed in Odzak, Capljina, Zavidovici, Kalinovik, Teslic, Derventa, Visegrad, Zecovi, Cajnice, Prozor, Srebrenica, Zvornik, Foca, Cazin, Bileca, Kotor-Varos, Buzim, Orasje, Rogatica, Bihac and Mostar will also continue before the state court next week.
