State Prosecution: 500 Accusations of War Crimes, 235 Indictments

“The indictees, who are accused of war crimes by the state prosecution, come from all nations and from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, and they are charged with crimes committed from 1992 to 1995,” reads a state prosecution statement.
The indictments are related to crimes committed against victims of all nationalities. The state prosecution states they cover crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes against civilians and prisoners of war.
According to the state prosecution’s statement, a significant number of indictments refer to cases of sexual violence, rape, and sexual abuse during war.
“An indictment was rejected in only one case against an accused party, while all the others were confirmed. In our current practice, convictions are handed down in more than 81 percent of cases, which speaks for itself with regards to the quality of the indictments and the professional attitude towards the work on these cases,” the state prosecution statement reads.
The state prosecution emphasized the need for cooperation with countries in the region, in order to prosecute suspects hiding in neighboring countries. The state prosecution also described their cooperation with partner institutions, stating that war crimes suspects have been extradited from the United States of America, Spain, Norway and other countries.
The state prosecution statement went on to thank all of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s citizens, governmental institutions, and especially the families of the victims for the results they achieved.
