Verdict for Goran Popovic Expected Next Week

The Bosnian state court is expected to pronounce a verdict in the Goran Popovic trial next week. Popovic has been charged with war crimes in the Visegrad area in 1992 and 1993.

Popovic has been charged with participating in the assault, torture and sexual abuse of men and women of Bosniak nationality in the Uzamnica military barracks. Popovic’s sentencing has been scheduled for Friday, April 24.

The trial of Mirko Vrucinic, charged with war crimes in Sanski Most and Prijedor, will begin at the Bosnian state court on Wednesday, April 22.

Vrucinic, a former member of the public safety station and a member of the Sanski Most crisis staff, has been charged with participating in a joint criminal enterprise.

The defense of Vitomir Rackovic, accused of war crimes in the Visegrad area, will present its closing arguments on Wednesday, April 22.

The defense team of Nihad Bojadzic, a former member of the Zulfikar unit of the Bosnian Army, will present its closing arguments on Monday, April 20. Nedzad Hodzic, Mensur Memic, Dzevad Salcin and Senad Hakalovic are also
defendants in the case.

An appeals hearing for Vehid Subotic, who was sentenced to 14 years in prison for crimes in the municipality of Zenica, will be held on Tuesday, April 21.

Trials for war crimes committed in Srebrenica, Sarajevo, Trnovo, Kotor Varos, Srebrenik, Prijedor, Bileca, Mostar, Odžak, Bijeljina, Foca, Livno, Prozor, Teslic, Kladanj and Cazin are scheduled to continue next week.
