Begovic’s attorney Aleksandar Majkalovic said that the defendant called him and said that he “tried to come, but freezing rain was falling, the car even slid off road at some point.”

The state prosecution has charged Gligor Begovic with participating in crimes committed against civilians and prisoners who were held at the Batkovic detention camp.

According to the indictment, the detainees were subjected to an atmosphere of terror, and a number of them were abused and killed while at the camp. The detainees were also deprived of sufficient amounts of food, water, medical care, and adequate sleeping conditions, the indictment alleges. Begovic is charged with assaulting detainees.

The next trial hearing will be set at a later date.
