Prosecution Requests Extension of Custody for Vlacic

Explaining the motion, Prosecutor Ivan Matesic said that the Prosecution of BiH planned to examine additional witnesses and that the suspect should remain in custody, because he might attempt to influence those witnesses while at liberty.
 
“The Prosecution has recently examined six witnesses, whose identity is known to the suspect. However, the Prosecution has reached some more witnesses, whom it wants to examine,” Matesic said, adding that one of those witnesses should speak about the location, where the bodies of the killed people were.
 
The Defence objected to the motion, saying that there were no concrete circumstances, indicating that the suspect would influence witnesses or accomplices and that the Prosecutor’s motion was not justified. 
 
“I consider that there are no reasons for custody and that home detention, constant supervision by police or any other measure would be sufficient,” said Dejan Bogdanovic, Defence attorney of suspect Vlacic.
 
The Prosecutor pointed out that a prosecutorial decision in this case would be rendered within the next ten days.
 
Vlacic, former member of military police with the Birac Brigade of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, is suspected of having killed three Bosniaks in the “Lovac” building in Sekovici in May 1993.
 
He was arrested in the Zvornik area on June 4. After that the Court ordered him into one-month custody due to existence of fear that he might influence witnesses and accomplices while at liberty and a possibility that he might attempt to flee.
 
The Court of BiH will render its decision concerning the custody extension motion at a later stage.
