Hearing Postponed Due to Protection Measures

As explained by the Trial Chamber, prior to the beginning of this hearing the Chamber found out that the witness, who was due to testify publicly at the hearing today, was granted protection measures during his earlier testimony before the Hague Tribunal.
 
Prosecutor Ibro Bulic said that he did not know about it. After that the parties discussed the subject at a closed part of the hearing. The Trial Chamber then rendered a decision to postpone the testimony by this witness.
 
“The witness was granted protection measures by the Hague Tribunal but we did not have the information about it. We did not know under what conditions he was examined and when his examination took place. Therefore, we are not going to examine him today,” said Trial Chamber Chairman Stanisa Gluhajic.
 
Saric is on trial for having participated in a joint criminal enterprise, which resulted in the forced resettlement of 40,000 Bosniaks and more than 7,000 killed persons from the Srebrenica area.
 
According to the charges, Saric commanded police forces, which participated in the search, disarmament and occupation of positions held by UN troops as well as the forced resettlement of women, children and the elderly and separation of men and boys, who were executed later on.
 
The trial is due to continue on July 7.
