As announced by the Association of Detainees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the museum will accommodate all archives related to the gravity of crimes against detainees in Bosnia and Herzegovina, BiH.

“Objects related to the suffering of detainees in Luka in Brcko will be exhibited here along with those related to Manjaca, Susica, Batkovici and other 650 detention camps for which there are verdicts pronounced either by courts in BiH or the International Tribunal, confirming that detention camps were located in those places and that crimes against detainees were committed in them,” said Jasmin Meskovic, President of the Association of Detainees of BiH.

He said that the museum was the first one of this kind to be opened in BiH, adding that Brcko was selected, because it had always been “a sample of positive energy and actions”.

The construction of the Museum of detainees’ suffering in Brcko District will cost KM 150,000. The financial resources have been provided by the Association of Detainees of BiH.

The Government and Assembly of Brcko District will allocate KM 10,000 each for the Museum construction, while “Luka Brcko” public company has disposed of the space, so it could be adapted in accordance with the project.

“The executive and legislative authorities in the District have helped us realise this idea wholeheartedly, by making sure that we obtain all the permissions needed for the construction. We have not faced any problems so far,” Meskovic said.

The Museum of detainees’ suffering in Brcko should be completed and officially opened at the beginning of May this year.
