“I did not expect that scenario,” said Hakalovic’s witness, who testified under the pseudonym O3-3.
He said that he had not heard that Hakalovic, who was released from custody last year, did anything bad.
Hakalovic, former member of the 45th Brigade, is on trial, along with five former members of “Zulfikar” Squad – Mensur Memic, Dzevad Salcin, Nedzad Hodzic, Nihad Bojadzic and Zulfikar Alispago, for crimes in Trusina.
According to the charges, 18 Croat civilians and four captives, members of the Croatian Defence Council, HVO, were killed.
When asked whether he used to see Hakalovic from March to May 1993, the witness said that he saw him after the murder of several men at Ibrino Guvno location, near Buturovic Polje, which was not far from Trusina.
He said that the murders were committed by Croat soldiers, but he was not able to remember the date, except that it happened after the conflict in that area.
The witness explained that he used to see Hakalovic on the nearby Marevac hill, where he went in order to dig trenches.
“He was deployed to military positions on Marevac. I did not see Senad carrying a rifle,” he said.
The second protected witness, who testified under the pseudonym O3-2, also said that he saw Hakalovic on Marevac after a group of soldiers had intruded the area and committed murders at Ibrino Guvno.
This witness, who used to dig trenches on Marevac, said that Hakalovic was on the military positions.
The trial is due to continue on July 22, when a new witness will testify in Hakalovic’s defence.
