Pekic, the former commander of the Fifth Company of the First Battalion of the 103rd Brigade of the Croatian Defense Council, is suspected of having failed to punish his subordinate, who killed two Serb women. Kajtazi, a former member of the Fifth Company of the First Battalion of the 103rd Brigade of the Croatian Defense Council, is suspected of having killed Milka and Radojka Brestovacki by shooting at them with firearms in mid-September 1992.

“Pekic neither prevented his [subordinate] soldier from committing the crime nor did he process and punish him for having done so,” a state prosecution announcement says.

The police will hand the suspects over to the state prosecution, which will decide whether to request custody or prohibitive measures against them.

“In collaboration with the State Investigation and Protection Agency, SIPA, the police of the Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, the Bosnian state prosecution will continue conducting the investigation with the aim of determining their responsibility for the murder of about 50 Serb civilians in the village of Bukvik in 1992,” the announcement says.

Senad Pekic and Mensur Djakic were arrested last week, as per a state prosecution warrant.
