“The proceedings against Nedjeljko Matic were separated from the proceedings against seven other defendants due to his unavailability,” the state court announced.

He was arrested along with other suspects on June 18, 2015.

The court confirmed the indictment against Matic and others on August 6, 2015. As per a proposal by the state prosecution, on August 14, 2015, it ordered prohibitive measures against seven defendants. One day later, the court also ordered that Matic be placed in custody.

Matic, Ivica Kraljevic, Mate Jelcic, Slavko Skender, Stojan Odak, Vice Bebek, Vinko Radisic and Dragan Milos have been charged with participating in crimes committed in the VIZ prison in Ljubuski from late April 1993 to March 1994.

According to the state prosecution’s charges, about 200 Bosniak prisoners, including women and children, were detained in the VIZ facility. The detainees were held in inhumane conditions and were tortured, abused, beaten and robbed.

The investigation into the case was opened by the Hague Tribunal, which then referred it to the Bosnian state prosecution for further processing.
