Bosnia’s State Investigation and Protection Agency on Tuesday arrested Zijad Nanic, Esad Kudelic, Nedzad Bapic, Senad Salkic, Samir Isakovic and Hasan Mustafic on suspicion of having committed war crimes against civilians and prisoners of war in the Buzim area in 1994 and 1995.

They are suspected of having participated in torture, rape and inhuman treatment of members of the Bosnian Serb Army and the National Defence force of the Western Bosnia Autonomous Region, a self-proclaimed Bosniak statelet which existed between 1993 and 1995, as well as civilians who were held in an improvised prison in the former Radoc hotel in the Buzim municipality from November 1994 to August 1995.

According to the prosecution, Zijad Nanic was assistant commander for security of the 505th Buzimka Brigade of the Fifth Corps of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Esad Kudelic was commander of the military police in the Command of the 505th Brigade, and the other suspects were members of the military police.

The arrested men will be handed over to the prosecution for further processing.
