Witness Provides Alibi for Bosiljko Markovic

Defense witness Luka Naric said Bosiljko Markovic spent the night with his sister on June 28, 1992. Naric said his sister and Markovic were in a romantic relationship at the time.

The Bosnian state prosecution has charged Bosiljko and Ostoja Markovic, former members of the Kotor-Varos Brigade of the Bosnian Serb Army, with the rape of a minor in the municipality of Kotor-Varos on June 28, 1992. The indictment alleges that the defendants and another person raped the minor several times in a moving minivan.

Luka Naric said Bosiljko and Ostoja Markovic came to his house in Vrbanjci in the municipality of Kotor-Varos on June 28, 1992. Naric said they were in military uniforms and armed.

“I stayed for an hour. Ostoja had left with the army before that, while Bosiljko stayed with my sister. My sister and Bosiljko went behind the house to the part where my mother lived,” Naric said.

Naric said he remembered having seen Markovic at the station on the following morning. When Naric asked Markovic why he hadn’t gone to the field mission with the other soldiers from the village, he said he’d overslept. Naric concluded that Markovic had spent the previous night with his sister Cvijeta.

Responding to a question by the prosecution, Naric said Bosiljko and Ostoja Markovic came to his house on foot.

Naric said his sister was cohabiting with someone and had two children while she was in a relationship with Bosiljko Markovic. He said she also had alcohol problems.

The trial will continue on April 14.
