Following the arrest of state court judge Azra Miletic, the president of Bosnia’s state court Meddzida Kreso said this is the time to open a dialogue about corruption in the Bosnian judiciary.

“It is up to us to revive the trust people have in the judiciary,” Kreso said at a news conference held after Miletic was arrested for allegedly accepting bribes.

Kreso said the arrest shook the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Bosnian citizens, who have “long held mistrust towards the judiciary.”

Kreso said the court and its judges have allowed the investigation of Miletic to proceed. The investigation was initiated by the Bosnian state prosecution.

“That shows our strength,” Kreso said.

She added that she expected the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council to investigate Miletic.

She refused to comment on the investigation, but added that everyone should be treated as innocent until proven guilty.

Kreso also said it was necessary to review the properties of judicial staff, including members of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council.
