Slobodanka Vidic said that she was detained in Polet around a month, from the end of June until the mid-July in 1992. She said that she saw “Indira” twice and that she knew her from before, since she was her neighbour and she recognised her in the court room.
“They questioned me about my friend. Whatever I said [they said] was not true, they hit me, one of them had night stick,” Vidic recalled.
She added that two military police officers of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) questioned her, and that when curtain moved, Indira showed up with another two soldiers.
“They had uniforms with those belts… then I saw Indira… at the end someone said enough. They questioned me more… some of them… I cannot say Indira,” witness said.
In a statement she gave to the State Investigation and Protection Agency
(SIPA) witness said that one member of the HVO hit her with the night sticks on her hands, but she did not mention that Indira showed up behind the curtain.
“No one asked me concretely who was there,” witness said responding to the defence question why she did not mention Indira.
She confirmed that in a statement she gave to the police in Bosanski Brod in 2006. she said that one member of the HVO hit her with the stick on both of her hands, and that Indira Vrbanjac, born Cosic, appeared behind the curtain.
Indira Kameric is charged with having participated in the torture of Serb and Bosniak civilians and prisoners of war who were held at the police building and the Polet stadium during 1992.
The indictment charges Kameric with aiding rapes and sexual abuse against the prisoners.
State Bosnian Prosecution believes that Kameric, former member of the 101st Bosanski Brod Brigade of HVO, participated in the crimes along with other Croatian Defence Council members.
Witness Vidic said that it was known that a certain “Muslim woman from Kobas” was beaten in “Polet” and raped.
“She was saying that they would put her in the circle, they pushed her from one side to another, she was all black. She mentioned that Indira was present,” witness said.
She added that she once saw that “those in uniforms” threw the Muslim woman over the fence so that she could be raped.
The trial continues on June 26.
