“It is important for the truth to be the light of history. We need it for the purpose of reconciliation between people in this region. The fact is that, on April 28, 1992 Serbia and Montenegro adopted the Constitution of Yugoslavia and established the Army, which was legal within the borders of those countries only…Military forces, which were under Ratko Mladic’s command, were situated within the military barracks in Tuzla on May 15. Mladic is on trial at The Hague for that. Those forces attacked Tuzla. The town was defended by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tuzla Canton,” said Tuzla municipality mayor Jasmin Imamovic.

Thirty-seven people lost their lives during the happenings at Brcanska Malta on May 15, 1992.

Thirty-three of them were members of the Yugoslav National Army, JNA, three were policemen from Tuzla, while one was a female civilian, who was killed in a garden next to the gas station.

The arrival of the Republika Srpska Government’s Board for Cherishing the Tradition of Liberation Wars has been postponed due to the current floods. The Board was supposed to attend the marking of the 22nd anniversary of the murder of JNA soldiers on May 15, 1992, which happened during an event known as the “Tuzla Convoy”.
