The witness, Muharem Hakalovic, said he was in the trenches in Gostovici when he saw a white vehicle coming from the direction of Trusina.
The witness said that the car, driven by Dzeko, hit a plum tree by the road close to the local clinic in Gostovic, after which he came to their rescue.
Hakalovic explained that he heard one of the wounded men telling the soldier who drove them: “Dzeko, help!”, to which Dzeko replied: “Don’t fret, Samko, I won’t leave you.”
He added that doctor Atif Karovic assisted the wounded, and a dozen persons, among them Dzeko, carried them towards Buturovic Polje. Near Padalovic Houses, the witness said, the wounded were put in another vehicle, and Dzeko drove them away.
“I guarantee you one hundred per cent that I saw that,” said Hakalovic.
According to earlier witness testimonies, the execution of six Croats in Trusina, carried out on April 16, 1993, which former soldier of Zulfikar detachment Dzeko is charged with, happened before the wounding.
Besides execution, Dzeko is charged with murder of two elderly women and one elderly Croat man in Trusina.
He is also charged with crimes against Croat civilians and prisoners of war in Jablanica in second half of 1993.
Protected witness code-named “N”, former member of Zulfikar, also testified, saying that the defendant could not have taken money from the prisoners in Rogic Houses in Donja Jablanica, where Zulfikar detachment was stationed, without the knowledge of the commander.
According to the indictment, Dzeko took one prisoner out of Rogic Houses, threatening him with murder, and forced him to take 3,500 Deutschemarks from his friends and relatives, which he did.
The trial will resume on September 24.
