The Week Ahead: Verdict for Crimes in Grbavica

On Friday, 29 March, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina is due to pronounce a verdict against Veselin Vlahovic (also known as Batko) for crimes committed in the Sarajevo settlements of Grbavica, Vraca and Kovacici in 1992. Vlahovic is charged with the murders of more than 30 people, rape of more than ten women, and beating up, mistreatment and plunder of non-Serbs.

On the same day, the plea hearing for Srebranica genocide is scheduled in the case of Nedeljko Milidragovic and Aleksa Golijan, who are unavailable to BiH law enforcement agencies.

The first-instance verdict of last October sentencing Zurahid Mujcinovic to eight years in prison, and acquitting Sulejman Hrustic is due to be appealed on Thursday, 28 March.

The first BiH Prosecution witnesses will appear in court in the trial of Dragomir Soldat, Zoran Babic and Velemir Duric who are charged with crimes in Carakovo (Prijedor Municipality).

The hearing to decide on the motion by the BiH Prosecution to order prohibiting measures to eight former police and Territorial Defence (TO) members who are charged with crimes against Kladanj civilians in 1992 and 1993 was also scheduled for Thursday. Indicted for this crime are Nusret Muhic, Osman Gogic, Zijad Hamzic, Ramiz Halilovic, Nedzad Hodzic, Safet Mujcinovic and Selman Busnov.

On Monday, 25 March, a custody extension hearing will be held for Frano Vulic, who is charged with crimes against civilians in Dretelj prison camp near Capljina.

On the same day, the trial will continue in cases of Savo Babic for crimes in Bratunac, Goran Saric, for crimes in Sarajevo, and Mensur Memic, Dzevad Salcin, Nedzad Hodzic, Senad Hakalovic, Nihad Bojadzic and Zulfikar Alispago for crimes in Trusina.

Two trials for war crimes in Visegrad will continue on Tuesday in the cases of Predrag Milisavljevic, Milos Pantelic, Ljubomir Tasic, and Oliver Krsmanovic.

On Tuesday, trials will continue in the cases of Fikret Planincic, Rasim Lisancic, Sead Menzil and Mirsad Vatrac, for crimes committed in Kotor-Varos, Edin Dzeko for crimes in Jablanica and Trusina, Najdan Mladenovic and Savo Zivkovic for crimes in Bratunac, as well as Ivan Zelenika, Srecko Herceg, Edib Buljubasic, Ivan Medic and Marina Grubisic-Fejzic for crimes in Dretelj.

On Wednesday, 27 March trials will continue in the cases of Zemir Kovacevic for crimes in Sijekovac village nearby Bosanski Brod, Ostoja Stanisic and Marko Milosevic for crimes in Srebrenica, and Zoran Dragicevic for crimes in Sarajevo.

On the same day, new witness will appear in court in the cases of Branko Vlaco for crimes in Vogosca, and Ivo and Veselku Raguz for crimes in Stolac and Capljina.

On Thursday Zeljko Jukic will stand trial before the BiH Court for crimes in Prozor in 1993, as will Mustafa Delilovic, Fadil Covic, Mirsad Sabic, Nezir Kazic, Becir Hujic, Halid Covic, Serif Mesanovic and Nermin Kalember for crimes in Hadzici.

Trials are scheduled for Friday in the cases of Ramiz Avdovic and Iulian-Nicolae Vintili for crimes committed in former Viktor Bubanj Military Barracks in Sarajevo, and Predrag Prosic for crimes in Sanski Most.

Retrials scheduled for the week ahead are the following – on Monday in the case of Zeljko Ivanovic for genocide in Srebrenica, and on Wednesday in the cases of Nisvet Gasal, Musajb Kukavica and Senad Dautovic for the crimes in Bugojna.

Retrials in front of the Appellate Chamber will continue on Thursday in the case of Momir Pelemis for genocide in Srebrenica, and on Thursday and Friday in the cases of Gojko Klickovic and Mladen Drljaca for crimes in Bosanska Krupa.
